About the Consort
The Seattle Trumpet Consort was founded in 2001 to explore trumpet ensemble
repertoire from the Baroque and Classical eras. The consort performs on
trumpets patterned after the leading instruments of 18th century Nürnberg,
and strives to recreate the timbres and balances that the composers of the
time would recognize. The use of 18th and 19th century style mouthpieces
also contributes to creating a characteristic tone color. Adding tympani
of historic style and calfskin heads completes the unique sonority that
the consort produces.
The members of the Seattle Trumpet Consort have performed with leading period instrument groups of the West, including Seattle Baroque Orchestra, Portland Baroque Orchestra, American Bach Soloists (San Francisco), Baroque Northwest, and Pacific (Vancouver B.C.) Baroque Orchestra. They have presented recitals across America and in Germany. The consort performs regularly as the trumpet section for the St. Mary Chamber Orchestra in Littleton, Colorado.
Consort members also perform using modern instruments, and have appeared with numerous ensembles throughout the Pacific Northwest including the Seattle Symphony, the Seattle Opera, the Northwest Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Seattle, Northwest Sinfonietta, Bellevue Philharmonic, and the Tacoma Symphony.
